Original Acid Jazz records pioneers Night Trains return to the international live scene after a 15 year hiatus to celebrate the global release of their new 30 year anthology album"Night Trains Lovesick 1987-2017" on Acid Jazz Records (Amazon/Spotify /iTunes etc) distributed worldwide by P.I.A.S.
Night Trains are a seven piece vocal, horn and percussion led line up featuring:
Jennie Bellestar Mathias on Vocals
Ashley Slater (freakpower) on Trombone
Dave Priseman (Imelda May) on Trumpet
Damian Hand (Akasha/j James Hunter Six) on Sax and Flute
Paul Mannion (Guitar/ Vocals)
Paul Chivers (Congas)
Grete Hjorth - johansen (Keyboards)
Michelle Myre (Drums)
Hugh Brooker (Bass)
Night Trains were formed in 1987 by bassist / producer / dj Hugh Brooker. Spotted while playing at Soho’s legendary wag club by Gilles Peterson, he signed them to his and Eddie Piller’s new Acid Jazz Records label, and alongside the Brand New Heavies, the James Taylor Quartet, Galliano and Jamairoqui became part of the first wave of acid jazz artists to enjoy international success.
In 1990 they signed to New Yorks Instinct Records alongside Moby and toured Europe and Japan for over 10 years headlining at venues such as The Jazz Cafe and the Marquee London, Club Yellow Tokyo, Magazini Generale Milan. and the Paradiso and Melk Weg Amsterdam touring with artists as diverse as Afrika Bambaata, Jamairoqui and the late great Gil Scott Heron.
Night Trains have received radio support from Robert Elms on his radio London show and Craig Charles on his national BBC 6 Music Soul and Funk show, the live shows will commence from the end of April 2018 & continue throughout 2018.
